The historical precedent remains relevant as Arsenal continue to be linked with Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes. While reports suggest Arsenal are considering a formal £70 million bid, no official offer or contact has been made by the London club, causing frustration for Newcastle officials who want to avoid squad disruption. Unofficial discussions have floated a rejected £45 million verbal offer, with the player expressing a desire to join Arsenal while personal terms are understood to be agreed.

Crucially, Guimaraes is reportedly unwilling to go on strike to force a move, actively avoiding the paths taken by Cabaye and former teammate Alexander Isak. Isak previously refused to join a pre-season tour, training independently in Spain before completing a £125 million transfer to Liverpool.
