Chelsea FC has opted against pursuing former Tottenham midfielder Yves Bissouma and former Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum, both of whom are currently free agents. After leaving their respective clubs at the end of the 2025/26 season, the Blues have decided to explore other options instead.

Chelsea FC has reportedly been offered the chance to sign Yves Bissouma, a former Tottenham midfielder currently without a club. However, the club has chosen not to pursue this opportunity, nor are they looking to bring in Georginio Wijnaldum, another notable free agent who previously played for Liverpool.

Both Bissouma and Wijnaldum left their clubs at the end of the last season. While Bissouma expressed interest in a potential short-term deal to remain in the Premier League, interest has also come from clubs like Ajax and Monaco. Despite this, Chelsea's decision reflects a broader strategy as they assess their midfield needs.

The Blues face challenges in midfield depth following the recent transfer of Enzo Fernández to Manchester City. The club's previous attempt to secure Monaco's Lamine Camara also fell through on Deadline Day, further complicating their situation. With Bissouma's lack of success at Spurs and Wijnaldum's current status in his mid-30s after a stint in Saudi Arabia, Chelsea appears to be steering clear of players who may not add significant value to their squad.

As the team navigates through this period, they are now focusing on Pablo Barrios as a priority target for the January transfer window. For now, Chelsea will rely on Moisés Caicedo, Romeo Lavia, and Jordan Henderson to fill their midfield roles, with Reece James also available for selection if needed.
