Chelsea won a breathless 6-4 contest against Western Sydney Wanderers at Accor Stadium, in a match that swung repeatedly and offered little respite at either end.

D. Satpaev put Chelsea ahead in the sixth minute, but Western Sydney replied through A. Pantazopoulos and A. Hammond to lead 2-1. D. Essugo levelled before the break. D. Scicluna restored the Wanderers’ advantage in the 62nd minute, only for J. Gittens to answer four minutes later.

The decisive spell came late. A. Lual made it 4-3 in the 78th minute, but Joao Pedro equalised two minutes later, then struck again in the 85th and 89th minutes to complete his hat-trick and settle the contest.

For Chelsea, the six-goal return and Joao Pedro’s late finishing were the headline positives. But conceding four times will temper the satisfaction: Western Sydney repeatedly found a way back into the game, making this an entertaining win rather than a composed one.
