Chelsea won a breathless 6-4 contest against Western Sydney Wanderers at Accor Stadium, despite surrendering the lead twice in a game that offered little respite at either end.

D. Satpaev put Chelsea ahead in the sixth minute, but A. Pantazopoulos and A. Hammond turned the match around for the Wanderers. D. Essugo levelled before the break, and D. Scicluna restored the hosts’ advantage after half-time. J. Gittens made it 3-3, before A. Lual put the Wanderers back in front.

The decisive spell belonged to Joao Pedro. He equalised in the 80th minute, struck again five minutes later with C. Palmer providing the assist, then completed his hat-trick in the 89th to seal Chelsea’s 6-4 win.

For Chelsea, the late surge showed their attacking firepower and resilience; conceding four goals, though, made for a less convincing defensive display. The Wanderers’ four strikes showed they could trouble Chelsea, but they could not hold on as the visitors finished strongest.
