Lionel Messi is set to sit out the MLS All-Star Game for the second successive season. However, unlike last year when the Argentine icon received a one-game ban for missing the showcase, league authorities announced on Saturday that he will escape suspension this time around.

World Cup Exits Prompt Policy Adjustment

The softening stance from league officials follows a demanding summer schedule. Following the World Cup final on July 19, Major League Soccer and the MLS Players Association established an agreement allowing clubs to manage individual rest and return-to-training timelines for players concluding their tournament campaigns.

Consequently, both Messi and Inter Miami teammate Rodrigo De Paul have been officially excused from Wednesday's fixture against the Liga MX All-Stars in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Rest Period Agreements

Global player representation body FIFPRO secured agreements with FIFA last year ensuring mandatory 21-day rest periods at the conclusion of campaigns. Alongside Messi and De Paul, Mbekezeli Mbokazi and Hugo Cuypers—following his transfer to Monterrey—were also excused from the event, making way for replacement selections including Yannick Bright.
