Eli Junior Kroupi Set for Months Out After Surgery as Bournemouth Fight Off Transfer Interest

Bournemouth have been dealt a severe blow ahead of the new campaign after star forward Eli Junior Kroupi underwent surgery on a foot injury, ruling him out for between three and four months.

The 20-year-old French prospect sustained the injury—reported as a fractured metatarsal—during the Cherries’ pre-season training camp in Austria before returning to England to undergo surgery. Kroupi took to social media from his hospital bed to confirm that the operation went well and that he is now focused on his rehabilitation, but the timeline ensures he will miss the start of Bournemouth’s upcoming maiden Europa League campaign.

Pre-Season Blow for Bournemouth

Kroupi enjoyed an outstanding debut campaign in England last year, finishing as the club's top scorer with 13 Premier League goals in 33 appearances to help propel the Cherries to a historic sixth-place finish.

His loss leaves incoming manager Marco Rose with an early selection headache ahead of his first season in charge at the Vitality Stadium. Bournemouth have already moved to bring in attacking coverage this summer by signing Elche striker Alvaro Rodriguez, but losing Kroupi's goal threat for such a prolonged period represents a significant setback.

Transfer Interest Cooled

Kroupi’s breakout season had attracted serious attention across Europe, with Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur monitoring the player closely ahead of potential summer bids. Other heavyweights including Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona had also been linked with the highly-rated attacker.

However, any potential move away from the south coast has now been dashed by his injury. While Bournemouth sources maintained all along that Kroupi—along with midfielder Alex Scott and winger Rayan—was not for sale this summer, the long recovery period effectively ends any remaining transfer speculation, forcing interested clubs to pivot to alternative targets.
