Chelsea won a wild 6-4 contest against Western Sydney Wanderers at Accor Stadium, in a match where neither side could keep the other quiet. D. Satpaev opened the scoring in the sixth minute, but Western Sydney replied through A. Pantazopoulos and A. Hammond. D. Essugo’s 38th-minute goal made it 2-2 at the break.
The key moment came late. After D. Scicluna and A. Lual kept Western Sydney in the fight, Joao Pedro struck in the 80th, 85th and 89th minutes to turn Chelsea’s advantage into a decisive finish. J. Gittens also scored for Chelsea in the second half.
For Chelsea, the result showcased their capacity to find goals through the closing stages, with Joao Pedro’s hat-trick the standout. But conceding four times will temper the satisfaction. Western Sydney showed attacking threat and persistence; the six goals conceded, however, proved costly.
