Ruben Amorim's time at Manchester United was tumultuous, culminating in his sacking after just 14 months in charge. The Portuguese manager was dismissed in January following a disappointing spell that included a crucial 1-1 draw against rivals Leeds, which proved to be the final straw for the club.

The financial implications of his dismissal are significant. United had to pay Amorim a staggering £8.5 million to terminate his contract early. This amount, while hefty, is notably less than what his predecessor Erik ten Hag received after his exit in 2024, which was reported to be around £16.7 million. Interestingly, the club managed to mitigate some of the financial damage, as Amorim's recent appointment at AC Milan helped lessen the blow of his sacking.

Despite the managerial chaos, Manchester United has reported record revenues for the 2025/26 season, totaling £677.6 million, an increase from the previous year’s £666.5 million, even in the absence of European competition. However, the club did record a pre-tax loss of nearly £47 million, underscoring the financial challenges they face moving forward.
