Tijjani Reijnders Leaves Manchester City for Al Qadsiah After One Season

Tijjani Reijnders has departed Manchester City to join Al Qadsiah in Saudi Arabia after a single season at the Etihad Stadium.
Tijjani Reijnders has made a swift exit from Manchester City, joining Al Qadsiah in the Saudi Pro League after just one season. The move, worth approximately £51 million, marks a significant chapter in his career following a productive stint at the Etihad.
Reijnders arrived at City last summer from AC Milan for about £46.5 million, quickly making a name for himself. Over the course of the season, he made 50 appearances and netted seven goals, playing a crucial role in helping the club secure a domestic cup double. His contributions were vital, and his departure adds to the list of changes at City this summer.
The club is experiencing a transition period, with several key players having already left. Notable departures include Rodri, who moved to Barcelona, along with John Stones, Bernardo Silva, and Nathan Ake. This upheaval has created a sense of urgency for City to bolster their squad ahead of the new season.
In a statement reflecting on his time at Manchester City, Reijnders expressed gratitude for the opportunity. He stated, "I have been incredibly privileged to play for Manchester City, and I have relished every minute of my time here. To be part of the squad that won two such special trophies last season were both incredible experiences and achievements that I will savour forever."
As City prepares for the upcoming Premier League campaign, they are actively seeking new signings to strengthen their ranks. Manager Enzo Maresca's comments about the need for reinforcements were underscored by a disappointing performance in the Community Shield, where they were defeated 3-0 by Arsenal.
With Reijnders now in Saudi Arabia under the management of Brendan Rodgers, City is reportedly eyeing potential replacements, including Lille’s Ayyoub Bouaddi and Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez. The club has a busy few weeks ahead in the transfer market, aiming to solidify their squad before the season kicks off.
Manchester City’s next challenge comes as they host Bournemouth at the Etihad Stadium, followed by clashes against Crystal Palace and newly promoted Coventry City. The stakes are high as they seek to reclaim their Premier League title after a couple of seasons without it. With a reshaped squad, the club aims to re-establish its dominance in English football.
