In a dramatic turn of events for Chelsea FC, Todd Boehly has sold his stake in the club and stepped down as chairman. The deal, valued at approximately £1 billion, allows Clearlake Capital to take full control of the club, significantly reshaping the ownership landscape at Stamford Bridge.

This transition marks the end of Boehly’s direct involvement with the club, which began when he and his consortium took over Chelsea in 2022 for £2.3 billion. Clearlake, previously holding a 61.5% stake, has now increased its ownership to an impressive 99.9%. Behdad Eghbali and José E Feliciano, the co-founders of Clearlake, will lead the club moving forward.

The club's official statement reassured fans that there would be no immediate changes to the day-to-day operations or the strategic direction under the new ownership. However, the dynamics of leadership at Chelsea are set to shift, with Eghbali expected to take a more prominent role in the club’s operations.

Boehly, who has been a visible figure at Chelsea matches, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve as chairman. He thanked the Premier League, the staff, and the dedicated fans for their support during his tenure. His departure comes at a time when relations between him and Eghbali had reportedly become strained, leading to discussions about a potential buyout.

In addition to Boehly's exit, Mark Walter has also sold his shares, though he maintains a significant stake as an important partner in the ownership group. Meanwhile, Swiss billionaire Hansjörg Wyss, who previously held a similar stake, will remain involved in the ownership structure.

The new ownership group, led by Clearlake, has committed to investing in Chelsea and ensuring long-term success for the club and its supporters. As the dust settles on this major shake-up, fans will be eager to see how the strategic vision of the club evolves under this new leadership.
