Chelsea won a remarkable 6-4 contest against Western Sydney Wanderers at Accor Stadium, in a match where neither side could keep the scoring quiet. D. Satpaev put Chelsea ahead in the sixth minute, but the Wanderers struck twice through A. Pantazopoulos and A. Hammond. D. Essugo’s 38th-minute goal made it 2-2 at the break.

The key spell came late. D. Scicluna restored the Wanderers’ lead in the 62nd minute, but J. Gittens levelled four minutes later. A. Lual made it 4-3 in the 78th; then Joao Pedro took over, scoring in the 80th, 85th and 89th minutes to complete his hat-trick and seal Chelsea’s win.

Chelsea’s six goals and late response will be the headline, while the four conceded underline how open the game became. For Western Sydney, the attacking threat was clear, but they could not hold on once Joao Pedro found his rhythm.
