Chelsea survived a lively challenge at Accor Stadium, with Joao Pedro scoring a late hat-trick to seal a 6-4 win.
Chelsea beat Western Sydney Wanderers 6-4 at Accor Stadium in a chaotic contest that kept swinging until the closing stages. D. Satpaev put Chelsea ahead in the sixth minute, but goals from A. Pantazopoulos and A. Hammond turned the game around before D. Essugo levelled just before the break.
Western Sydney struck again through D. Scicluna in the 62nd minute, only for J. Gittens to equalise four minutes later. The decisive spell came late: after A. Lual made it 4-3, Joao Pedro scored in the 80th, 85th and 89th minutes to complete his hat-trick and put Chelsea clear.
The result gives Chelsea a win from a match that showcased their attacking threat, but conceding four goals will temper the satisfaction. Western Sydney’s four strikes showed they could punish openings, even as Chelsea’s late firepower proved the difference.
