Juventus Agree Deal to Sign Neto from Free Agency

Juventus are making headlines with their latest signing as they have agreed to bring in goalkeeper Neto on a short-term contract. This move comes in response to an unfortunate injury to Kamil Grabara, who recently tore his anterior cruciate ligament during training.

Grabara’s injury leaves Juventus without a reliable backup to first-choice goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, who himself joined the club on loan from Tottenham Hotspur. With Grabara’s absence potentially lasting the entire season, Juventus needed to act quickly to shore up their goalkeeping options.

Neto, 37, rejoins Juventus after being a free agent since leaving Botafogo at the end of June. He previously served as Gianluigi Buffon’s backup at Juventus from 2015 to 2017, where he won two domestic doubles and made 22 appearances. His experience and past connection with the club could prove invaluable as he steps back into a familiar environment.

The Brazilian goalkeeper has also played for notable clubs such as Valencia, Barcelona, and Bournemouth. Interestingly, he had a loan spell at Arsenal during the 2024-25 season, but did not make any league appearances during that time.

Before opting for Neto, Juventus explored other free-agent options, including Sergio Rico and Alfred Gomis, but ultimately settled on Neto as their preferred candidate. This decision highlights the urgency of filling the void left by Grabara's injury, as coach Luciano Spalletti aims to ensure that Vicario has adequate support between the sticks for the remainder of the campaign.
