Kai Havertz’s Anfield Winner Sends Arsenal Back to the Top

Kai Havertz struck in the first half as Arsenal claimed a 1-0 win at Liverpool, their first victory at Anfield in 14 years, and returned to the Premier League summit.
Arsenal left Anfield with more than a narrow victory. Kai Havertz’s first-half finish secured a 1-0 win over Liverpool, ended the visitors’ 14-year wait for a win at the ground and sent Arsenal back to the top of the Premier League table.
The decisive moment came after Martin Ødegaard intercepted Alisson’s hurried clearance. Arsenal worked the ball forward to Declan Rice, whose low cross found Havertz arriving at the far post to turn it home. It was the only goal of a lively first half — and, according to Arsenal’s report, made Havertz the all-time leading German goalscorer in Premier League history.
Liverpool responded with sustained pressure. Alexander Isak could not connect with a dangerous cross, while Virgil van Dijk’s header forced David Raya into a save. Florian Wirtz then sent a free kick against the crossbar, and Alexis Mac Allister headed over as Liverpool pressed for an equaliser.
Arsenal had chances to make their lead more comfortable. Bruno dragged a shot wide after a counter-attack led by Christos Tzolis, and Noni Madueke was denied by Alisson. Tzolis, playing his first game in a month, remained a threat after the break: he burst into the box after a Liverpool slip, then drew a diving save with a first-time effort aimed at the bottom corner.
The second half demanded work at both ends. Riccardo Calafiori saw a low cross cleared on the line, while Jurrien Timber made a crucial block inside Arsenal’s penalty area. Arsenal’s account said Liverpool did not manage a shot on target after the interval; the visitors held firm to preserve Havertz’s goal.
The result was also Arsenal’s 300th away victory in Premier League history. For Liverpool, the pressure and chances did not bring a goal. For Arsenal, a disciplined defensive effort turned one well-built attack into a landmark win — and a return to first place.
