Chelsea won a breathless 6-4 encounter with Western Sydney Wanderers at Accor Stadium. D. Satpaev put Chelsea in front in the sixth minute, but A. Pantazopoulos and A. Hammond turned the score around before D. Essugo made it 2-2 before the break. D. Scicluna restored the Wanderers’ lead after half-time; J. Gittens levelled for Chelsea four minutes later.
The key spell came late. A. Lual made it 4-3 in the 78th minute, only for Joao Pedro to answer twice in five minutes, with C. Palmer assisting the second. Joao Pedro completed his hat-trick in the 89th minute to seal Chelsea’s win.
Chelsea’s six goals showed their attacking threat, but conceding four after falling behind twice also made this a reminder of the defensive work still required. For the Wanderers, the goals and repeated leads were not enough to prevent defeat.
